James Blunt (born James Hillier Blount, 22.2.1974)

James Blunt is an English songwriter and singer who shot to fame in 2005 with the single 'You're Beautiful.'

James Blunt: Childhood

James Blunt was born in a military hospital in Tidworth, Wiltshire, to Jane and Charles Blount. His family has a history of military service that dates back to the 10th Century.

His early childhood was divided between England, Cyprus and Germany, as his father was a Corporal in the British Army Air Corps.

Aged 16, Blunt had gained his own pilot's license and he earned an army-sponsored place at Bristol University, where he first studied aerospace manufacturing engineering, before graduating with a BSc in Sociology in 1996. His education was completed at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

James Blunt: Military Career

Blunt was committed to at least four years of service in the army, as they had sponsored his university education. He was initially placed in the role of a second Lieutenant in the Life Guards and rose to the rank of Captain.

In 1999, Blunt served in the NATP peacekeeping force in Kosovo and was the first British officer to enter the Kosovan capital.

Blunt took his guitar with him and would often perform for the local Kosovans. It was here that he wrote the song 'No Bravery.'

Later on, whilst based in Switzerland he earned the captaincy of the Household cavalry Alpine ski team and became the champion skier of the entire Royal Armoured Corps.

Whilst in London, Blunt stood guard at the coffin of the Queen Mother whilst she was lying in State and was a part of her funeral procession.

He extended his stay in the army, but then left in October 2002.

James Blunt: Musical Career

Upon leaving the army, Blunt was signed to EMI's publishing arm and to Twenty-First Artists Management. His posh speaking voice caused concern for many record company executives. However, when Linda Perry (songwriter for Pink and Christina Aguilera, among others) was launching Custard Records in 2003, she signed him to the label, having seen him perform at South By Southwest Festival.

The debut album, Back to Bedlam, was produced by Tom Rothrock in 2003. Blunt stayed with the actress Carrie Fisher during his time in Los Angeles, recording the album. He had met Fisher through the family of a former girlfriend. The song 'Goodbye My Lover' was recorded in Fisher's bathroom.

Back to Bedlam was released in 2003 but Blunt was relatively unknown and the response to his live performances was mixed, though his music was often likened to that of Damien Rice and David Gray.

It wasn't until the third single, 'You're Beautiful' was released, that Blunt broke through to mainstream success. The song went into the charts at number 12 and eventually ascended to the top spot. The huge amounts of radio airplay given to the song also pushed the album to the top of the UK Albums Chart.

The Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work was awarded to James Blunt and the co-writers of the song. He also became the first British artist in almost a decade to reach the top of the US singles chart.

In 2006, he was awarded 5 BRIT awards. He performed 'You're Beautiful' at the Grammy Awards in 2007 but failed to win any of the five prizes that he had been nominated for.

Back To Bedlam eventually sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

All The Lost Souls, James Blunt's second album, was released in 2007 and was certified gold in just four days in the UK. The album was recorded at his home in Ibiza, again with Rothrock on production duties.

James Blunt: Personal Life

James Blunt's personal life has been well documented in the press and has been linked romantically to Dixie Chassay, casting director for the Harry Potter films, musician Camilla Boler and the supermodel Petra Nemcova.

Blunt auctioned a number of 'meet and greet' opportunities at his gigs, to raise money for Medecins Sans Frontieres as well as supporting environmental causes. He screens a trailer for Al Gore's documentary An Inconvenient Truth at his concerts.

In 1995, she earned the part of Sarah on the television drama Party of Five. Her big break came with the lead in the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. In 2005, Hewitt debuted on the CBS drama The Ghost Whisperer,

Quotes

"I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image. A size two is not fat! Nor will it ever be. And being a size zero doesn't make you beautiful."
– Jennifer Love Hewitt
which lasted five seasons. She returned to TV in 2012 on the series The Client List. She married and had a child with her Client List co-star Brain Hallisay.

Early Life and Career

Actress and singer Jennifer Love Hewitt was born on February 21, 1979, in Waco, Texas. The daughter of two medical professionals who divorced when their daughter was just 6  months old, Hewitt is one a rare child song-and-dance stars who's managed to navigate the tricky road to adult success as a film and television actress.
Hewitt—who got her first name from her 8-year-old brother Todd, who chose the name Jennifer as an homage to his grade school crush—showed an early passion for music. She started performing at the age of 3, when she made her debut as a singer at a livestock fair, not far from her childhood hometown of Nolanville, Texas.
Two years after her performance at the fair, Hewitt's mother enrolled her daughter in jazz, ballet and tap dance classes, which eventually landed the young performer a spot on the prized Texas Show Team, a cadre of performers who toured Europe and the former Soviet Union.
In 1989, a talent scout recommended that Jennifer and her mother, Pat, move to Los Angeles so Hewitt could pursue better acting and dancing opportunities. It turned out to be sound advice. Hewitt quickly found work, appearing in television commercials for companies like Mattel Toys and LA Gear, the latter of which brought her on board for a world tour to promote its sneakers.

Big Break

That work soon led to a regular part on Disney's Kids Incorporated (1984-93), a music driven show that catered perfectly to Hewitt's talents. Those same skills were also on full display for the 1991 release of the Dance! Workout With Barbie video, which featured the young actress. Other credits followed, not all of them huge successes, including a string of failed television pilots. In 1992, Hewitt stepped up her profile as a singer—at least overseas—when she released her first album, Love Songs, a saccharine-sweet collection of romantic teen ballads.
There was also plenty of additional acting work, including a role in the 1993 film, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, co-starring Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. In 1995, Hewitt earned the kind of successful television gig that had previously eluded her, starring as the pretty girl-next-door in the Fox Television drama, Party of Five (1994-00). Stepping into the role during the program's second season, Hewitt soon became a household name, earning nominations from the Kids Choice Awards and Teen Choice awards, as well as helping the program land a Golden Globe Award for Best Drama in 1996.

Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had.
– Alice Sebold
Early Years

Born Alice Sebold on September 6, 1963, in Madison, Wisconsin. The daughter of two academic parents, Sebold grew up in a household dominated by dysfunction. Her mother, Jane, was an alcoholic, who suffered severe bouts of panic and anxiety, often leaving Sebold and her older sister Mary to take care of her.

Sebold's father, a Spanish professor, eventually relocated his family to Paoli, Pennsylvania, where Jane worked as a journalist for a small newspaper and he taught at the University of Pennsylvania. To help diffuse the difficulties her home life introduced, the argumentative and sarcastic Sebold took on the role of the "family moron."

"[They] seemed to have more fun, more freedom, and more personality," Sebold has said.
Tragedy Strikes

After high school, Sebold, in an attempt to distance herself from her family, enrolled at Syracuse University in upstate New York in the fall of 1980. But during her first year at the school, Sebold suffered a horrific event that would change her life. While walking back to her dorm one evening, she was brutally attacked and raped in a tunnel. Sebold eventually made it back to her room where friends took her to the hospital. After reporting her case to the police, one of the officers said she was "lucky" to be alive. Not long before, another rape had occurred in the same tunnel where Sebold had been attacked, that had resulted in a woman's death and dismemberment.

Sebold's attacker was eventually apprehended and sentenced to prison but, not surprisingly, finding closure wasn't easy for Sebold. "In my world, I saw violence everywhere," she later wrote. "It was not a song or a dream or a plot point." She was, however, determined to move forward, and returned to Syracuse to finish her degree.

Sebold's immediate post-college years only brought more trauma. Her parents, unable to process what had really happened to their daughter, proved to be of little support. After a failed attempt at graduate school in Texas, Sebold landed in New York City, where she started experimenting with heroin.

But there were some glimmers of hope. While working in an adjunct professorship position at Hunter College, Sebold discovered her gift for teaching. She then relocated to California and took a position as the caretaker of an arts colony. Sebold's living conditions put her in the middle of the woods without electricity, where she learned to embrace solitude.

She also continued to write, experimenting with a novel about the rape and murder of a young girl that she tentatively called Monsters. After some time, Sebold enrolled at University of Irvine for graduate school, where she met her husband, writer Glen David Gold.

Early life

Love was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and his parents divorced at early age.[19] As a result of the divorce Love spent his childhood growing up in two different cities, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his Mother and Harlem, NY with his father.[20] Love's mother encouraged him as a child to write poetry.[21] Love wrote his own poems and went on to joining the African American Children's Theater where he recited Langston Hughes and acted.[20][21] Love had already been writing his own poems before he was introduced to rap in his early teens.[22] By the end of high school Love had decided to pursue a career in rap but would go to college simultaneously, "I'm [going] to go to school instead of just sitting on the block. If I hadn't gone to college I would've been a drug dealer."[21] While in college at Florida A&M University Love stayed involved in his music by winning many rap battles and talent shows.[21] On the weekends Love would leave for Atlanta, Georgia for the benefit of its studios and popular music scene.[21] While visiting Atlanta Love met members of Jagged Edge who were an influence on Love's songwriting development.[21] Love eventually left college because of a paper work error made by the college's administration's office.[21] Love went to live with some local Atlanta producers the Corna Boyz.[21] This relationship provided Love the opportunity to rap on a remix the producers were creating for Usher.[21] Usher liked Love's work on the remix and eventually signed him to US Records/J Records.
